EXPERIMENTS IN
MOOD AND MEANING
Poetry live at Highlanes Gallery Spring 2012
A series of four poetry events exploring new styles and new
ways of presentation and communication. The series is curated
and introduced by poet Roger Hudson, the programme is
financially supported by Create Louth and Highlanes Gallery.
Hudson says the series “is showcasing upcoming local and
national poets and bringing to Drogheda developments that are
revolutionising the cultural scene in Dublin”.
Saturday 31 March at 3.00pm
Adventures in the Word Jungle
Experiments in the presentation of poetry – no longer solo,
soul to soul readings, as our poets support one another in
presenting and performing their very varied poems in multiple
voices. Experience the unexpected in dialogue, thought
processes, dramatisations, and more, all adding to the power,
impact and emotional complexity. Featuring Drogheda poets
Nuala Leonard, Brian Quinn and Roger Hudson, and Dublin
poet Anne Tannam.
Saturday 14 April at 3.00pm
Storylands of Hard Life Experience
For too long have short, word-spinning lyric poems dominated
the poetry scene. Now narrative poets, free from ‘poetic’
language, subjects and styles, are striking back in forms
ranging from rap to rant, storytelling to themed assemblies,
the personal to the political, searing emotions to powerful
insights. A wide-ranging sample presented by well-known
Dublin performance poet Karl Parkinson, and Drogheda
poets Patrick Dillon, Roger Hudson and Terry McHugh.
Monday 7 May at 3.00pm Drogheda Arts Festival
Interactions in the Sonic Supersphere
In the unique acoustic of Highlanes Gallery, enter the all-
encompassing audio space created by the eerie and ever-
changing soul-sounds of Claire Fitch’s electronic cello as
she improvises to the swirling moods and emotions of Roger
Hudson’s life poems in a developing creative relationship of
which you and our environment can be a part.
Saturday 26 May at 3.00pm
Lapwing Poets
A tribute to Lapwing Publications, the fiercely independent
poetry publisher run by Dennis and Rene Greig in Belfast,
which continues to discover and present the work of poets
that establishment publishers ignore. With experimental
Dublin poet Adam Rudden, award-winning poet Tommy
Murray from Trim, winner of last year’s Great Drogheda Poetry
Slam, and the skilled and subtle poems of Drogheda’s Marie
MacSweeney.
Admission is free, booking advised by contacting the
