Mike Alexander was born in 1959 in New York City. He has worked in bookstores, banks, liquor stores, and corporate offices. He passed through a few New Jersey rock bands in the 1980s.
Since 1990, he produced a number of chapbooks, the most recent of which was We Internet in Different Voices (Modern Metrics). His poems have appeared in numerous print journals, from the likes of Abridged, Atlanta Review, Borderlands, Circumference, Heavenbone, and Iota, to Link, Measure, Newark Review, Other Poetry, Raintown Review, River Styx, and Texas Review. Online, he has participated in such sites as Barefoot Muse, Capriole, Chimera, Folly, MiPoesias, Now Culture, Scheherazade’s Behest, Shit Creek Review, and Worm; for more than ten years, he administrated “The Sonnet Board,” an on-line poetry workshop dedicated to the sonnet. His work has been anthologized in Mutabilis Press' The Weight of Addition, & TimeSlice; Dos Gatos’ Texas Poetry Calendar; and in Open Poetry's Hand Luggage Only. Alexander has presided over hundreds of readings, from Paterson, New Jersey, to Houston, Texas. He lives with his wife, the poet, K. A. Thomas. The Necessary Slice is his first full-length collection. |
